Whats New:

Gilders Paste

Metal Amore is now stocking Gilders Paste metal finish. Available in 28 different colors, Gilders Paste can be applied directly with your fingers or with a painting utensil. Available in two sizes, the small container covers 30 square feet and the large container covers 100 square feet.

This finish is easy to use as is, or mix multiple colors to create a custom color. Lightly rubbing Gilders Paste with a soft cloth after drying will produce a high luster while lightly rubbing immediately after application will add detail and highlight to depressed areas of the metal.

Gilders Paste can be used on wood, iron, pottery, clay, etched glass, picture frames, artwork, sculpture, gourds and more. Thin with small amounts of paint thinner, and clean up with soap and warm water or paint thinner.

Paint Selection:

Many people ask how to finish their metal. Here is a basic guideline for any project:

When selecting the finish for your project, consider the surface preparation, primer coat, any optional intermediate coat and the finish or top coat.

The surface needs to be prepared by removing any loose debris and cleaning the metal of any grease. The purpose of the primer coat is to protect the metal from corrosion. The top coat protects the primer coat from the environment by resisting weathering and abrasion. The top coat also provides the final color and/or shine to the product. The intermediate coat can serve as a buffer coat between incompatible primers and top coats.

When choosing the paint process you should take into account the environment the product will be exposed to as well as the amount of wear and tear it will have. If your product is to be used indoors then your paint need not provide as much rust protection as if it were going to be exposed to the elements.

Gilders Paste will accept an overcoat, such as clear lacquer, varnish, acrylic or clear powder coating to achieve a uniform finish. Ideal for faux finishes, the final product is unique and provides a custom finish.
